It is a fast read & probing into one's thoughts. The end is quite sad, but still worth the read A Review of BLIND HOPE Today I'm reviewing BLIND HOPE, AN UNWANTED DOG AND THE WOMAN SHE RESCUED by Kim Meeder and Laurie Sacher, published by Multnomah.This is the story of a woman who came to work at Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch, a home for rescued horses and troubled children. Laurie Sacher had her own baggage when she arrived there, having trusted the wrong things and the wrong people in her past. But instinctively she knew Kim Meeder and the work of the ranch could heal her. Laurie wanted to carry out the goals of rescuing animals in trouble, and one day she goes to see about rescuing both a horse and a dog who are being surrendered to the ranch. She had a mental picture of a cool dog whom she would be proud to be seen with, bblind-hopeut Mia was nothing like her imagined image; instead she was stinky, underweight, homely, and has bad breath. But Laurie is determined to be true to her goals, though she's disappointed in the dog. In a short time she realizes how much Mia needs her, and quickly, as the dog gains weight and gets cleaned up, she realizes Mia is actually beautiful. Laurie is able to relate the dog's progress to her own spiritual progress--how the Lord takes us when we are unlovely and afraid, and transforms us to being beautiful. He accepts us first, with all our faults. But the journey is not over--Mia becomes diabetic and soon loses the sight in both eyes. Now she is blind, and by trial and error, she has to learn to trust and obey her mistress, much as we learn to trust and obey the Lord, and stumble when we wander off on our own. Even though the dog's health is failing, Laurie stands by her, just as the Lord never abandons us. This book is written in a conversational style that is very readable. It can be finished in a sitting or two, but the truths within this book reverberate for a lifetime. I highly recommend this book, and the authors for writing it. Blessings, Laurie Kingery This is a powerful story This is a powerful story of how one woman decides to rescue an unwanted dog, and in the end how the dog leads her back to God. Laurie Sacher has always been plagued with low self esteem, so she decides that if she adopts a dog the good deed will help her feel better about herself. She agrees to adopt a dog sight unseen; she knows it's an Aussie mix and that it is 9yrs old. She has such high hopes of what they will do together and how beautiful this dog is going to be. When she meets the dog she is so disappointed at what she sees she really doesn't want to take the dog, its skinny mangy and has bad breath, but she takes the dog anyway. She gives the dog a new name Mia. When she takes the dog to the vet she is told that Mia is a diabetic and that she will soon go blind. Slowly Mia learns through several mishaps that she must trust Laurie, and the bond that dog and owner create becomes unconditional. Instead of Laurie rescuing Mia, Mia helps Laurie discover a relationship with God. Amazing This book taught me a lot. I love how God showed Laurie his heart through her interactions with her dog. He teaches her so much and it is inspiring to read. Laurie learns that like her dog she did not trust God enough to follow him and instead she had been running away from him. She also learned that like her dog she can learn to trust and follow a master she cannot see and that when she is in the darkness she needs to stay close to her master's side and listen to his guidance. Once when a storm was coming down hard all around them her dog slept peacefully by her side, she learned my favorite lesson ...that if she is in submitted to and in the presence of God she too could be peaceful amongst the storm. Lessons from a furry four-legged friend about life, love, and God On a warm summer afternoon I picked up this book unsure of what to expect. Within the pages I discovered the heart-warming tale of a needy dog named Mia and her even more needy master, Laurie. Once I began reading the book became impossible to put down. I was immediately drawn in by the story-telling skills of Kim Meeder. Kim does a masterful job of sharing the lessons that Laurie learns about life, love, people, and God through her courageous and loving canine companion. Many times I felt as if I were joining these two women on their outings. The lessons, which Laurie related to Kim, provide powerful insight from which much can be gleaned. They especially paint a beautiful picture of God's love for His creation despite their fallen state. I found myself deeply touched by Blind Hope and as a result paused frequently to reflect on the many times and ways God has used my own pet to bring comfort and healing in my life. We can learn so much from our four-legged friends which is why I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to read and review this book. It brought reflection regarding my relationship with my God and a renewed thankfulness for His grace, mercy, and love. Animal lovers will especially enjoy Blind Hope but its message is actually all-encompassing. Readers of every age will be inspired by Mia's rescue and the parallel it offers to hurting human hearts.
